Cleaning your rings at home
Share
Everyone experiences it, you invest in a special piece of jewelry that you're proud of. So you wear it … often. You wash dishes with it on, put lotions on your hands, you sweat while working out in it, you get dirt in it from doing yard work outside. Over time, the jewelry piece loses its luster, the stone isn't as glossy and now you see dullness and grease in the crevices. What do you do now?
Although there are many cleaning solutions on the market and of course the best way to clean diamond pieces is by taking it to a jeweler, there are many easy 'at-home' remedies to safely clean your jewelry. One thing I recommend is that you always invest in a small jewelry microfiber polishing cloth. It prevents nicks and scratches on your piece, instead of using abrasive rags or paper towels to dry or clean your piece.
Taking care of bronze:
With bronze pieces, an easy way to care for your ring is always keeping it in an air tight spaces, such as a ring box or a jewelry box. Bronze is easy to clean with soap (preferably dawn) and water. Also, To clean your piece, you can use baking soda and lemon juice and mix together to create a paste. You then use a small toothbrush to apply the paste to the ring and gently give it a clean with the toothbrush. You can even leave it sitting in the paste for 30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry with your microfiber cloth. Some people after sweating while wearing bronze may see that it leaves a green tint on the skin. Don't fret, this is not an allergic reaction and neither is it permanent. You can coat the inside of the ring with clear nail polish to create a barrier between the ring and your skin. All bronze rings from our store come pre-coated to protect our customers.
Taking care of silver:
Silver pieces are also very easy to clean. You can use baking soda to create a paste as well, no lemon juice is needed in this case. Use a toothbrush to get into the crevices of the piece and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. You can even leave the silver sitting in the baking soda paste overnight, you can do it with chains, bracelets, or rings. The results is always a shiny piece of jewelry afterwards.
For more elaborate jewelry pieces with precious gem settings (such as diamond, rubies or sapphires), you can use the baking soda paste method or take it to a jeweler if you want to exercise caution.
